Federal judge fines Texas $100,000 daily for inadequate foster care abuse investigations.
A federal judge in Texas has fined the state $100,000 daily for failing to adequately investigate allegations of abuse and neglect within its foster care system. This is the third contempt finding in a case that began with a 2011 lawsuit over foster care conditions at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The fines will be lifted when the state can demonstrate that its investigations are in compliance.
