Melatonin makers have been urged by the Council for Responsible Nutrition to adopt new guidelines within 18-24 months to promote responsible use of the hormone supplement, as emergency room visits due to children accidentally taking melatonin rise. This includes implementing child-deterrent packaging and improving cautionary language on labels of over-the-counter products, as well as considering gummy product packaging with child-deterrent closures and labeling advisories.
