Chip startup Rivos raised $250 million in funding, enabling the development of its first AI server chip based on the open source RISC-V architecture. The company aims to target data analytics and generative AI customers who do not require the costliest and most powerful chips from companies like Nvidia. RISC-V architecture allows Rivos to avoid paying license fees to Arm, Intel, and Advanced Micro Devices.
