Native American group Apache Stronghold is petitioning the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a decision granting land to Rio Tinto for a copper mine in Arizona. The group argues the land is sacred and culturally significant. The mine, part of the Resolution Copper project, would supply a quarter of U.S. copper demand for renewable energy transition but would also create a large crater.
