21-year-old Lithuanian athlete Mykolas Alekna broke the 38-year-old men's discus world record on Sunday, achieving a throw of 74.35 meters. This surpassed the previous record held by Jurgen Schult since 1986. Alekna, who had won silver and bronze medals at the 2022 World Championships and 2021 Budapest worlds respectively, set the new record at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational in Ramona, Oklahoma.
