24-year-old Chance Brannon, a former U.S. Marine, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for firebombing a Planned Parenthood clinic in Costa Mesa in 2022. Brannon, along with co-defendants Xavier Batten and Tibet Ergul, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy, malicious destruction of property by fire and explosive, possession of an unauthorized destructive device, and intentional damage to a reproductive health services facility. The three men ignited and hurled a Molotov cocktail at the clinic entrance during the early morning hours of March 13, 2022. Brannon and Ergul had also discussed starting a race war by attacking an electrical substation to disrupt the power grid in Orange County and had researched attacking the parking lot or electrical room of Dodger Stadium on a night celebrating LGBTQ pride.
