New Zealand has increased road user charges for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to $76 per 1000km, matching the rate for diesel-powered cars and trucks. EVs still cost less to operate overall, with Andrew Whiteford stating they are less than half the cost of petrol cars, even with the increased charges. However, the cost advantage for EVs decreases when charging at commercial sites rather than at home during off-peak hours.
