Ministry of Power permits 15 thermal plants, including Tata Power, Adani Power, and JSW, to use imported coal until Oct 15, 2024, due to rising power demand amid heatwaves.

The Ministry of Power has granted permission to 15 thermal plants, including Tata Power, Adani Power, and JSW, to use imported coal until October 15, 2024, to avoid electricity shortage amid rising demand. The ministry anticipates a power demand of 260 GW during the peak summer season (April-June) due to heatwaves. This decision follows the IMD's prediction of above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of India during summer.
