2013-introduced UK Universal Credit system sees ill-health benefit claimants nearly double to 2.3 million, with disabled people disproportionately affected.

The Resolution Foundation reports that the UK's Universal Credit system, introduced in 2013, has seen the number of benefit claimants with ill health almost double to 2.3 million. The system is set to cover seven million families by 2029, with entitlements totaling around £86 billion a year. However, this is £14 billion less than if the government had maintained the 2013/14 benefits system. The report suggests that changes are needed to better support the older and sicker population, as disabled people are among the biggest losers from the reform.
