Pope Francis supports Peruvian villagers facing eviction by companies linked to a powerful South American church group, the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae. The villagers have been battling lawsuits and land titling schemes since 2014. In a video message, Pope Francis told the San Juan Bautista de Catacaos farmers community in northern Peru to defend their land and not let it be stolen. The Sodalitium is a lay group involved in real estate, agriculture, and construction companies.
