Debutant Ethan Parry scored two tries as Maitland Pickers won 20-10 against Northern Hawks in the Magic Round at Newcastle No.2 Sportsground. Despite Maitland's early 12-0 lead, Hawks fought back in the second half, with Pickers coach Matt Lantry describing the win as "ugly" and praising Hawks' defensive effort. Both teams struggled with set completions in the second half.
