CBI registers FIR against Megha Engineering for alleged bribery in electoral bonds case, involving NMDC & NISP officials.
The CBI has registered an FIR against Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd, the second-largest buyer of electoral bonds worth Rs 966 crore, in an alleged bribery case. The charges involve eight officials from the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and National Iron and Steel Planning and Promotion Organisation (NISP) who allegedly received an approximate bribe of Rs 78 lakh to clear bills of Rs 174 crore related to works at Jagdalpur integrated steel plant. Megha Engineering had donated the highest amount of about Rs 586 crore to the BJP and smaller sums to other political parties. A preliminary enquiry was initiated on August 10, 2023, and the regular case was filed on March 31.
