Northern California man George Sheetz wins Supreme Court case allowing him to challenge traffic impact mitigation fee as unconstitutional.

A Northern California man, George Sheetz, won a unanimous Supreme Court case against development impact fees. Sheetz sought to build a home in 2016 and was ordered to pay a $23,420 fee for traffic impact mitigation. The fee is part of a program to help fund new roads and road expansions. Sheetz's attorneys argued that the fee was unconstitutional because it violates the Fifth Amendment's takings clause. The Supreme Court ruled that Sheetz's challenge to the constitutionality of the fee could proceed.
