ExxonMobil approves Whiptail project in Guyana, making it a larger crude producer than Venezuela.
ExxonMobil has approved its sixth oil project in Guyana, which will make the South American country a larger crude producer than OPEC member Venezuela. The Whiptail project, expected to cost $12.7 billion, will produce around 250,000 barrels a day by the end of 2027, increasing Guyana's overall daily crude capacity to 1.3 million barrels. The project is part of the Stabroek block, a 6.6 million acre area offshore Guyana, and will include up to 10 drill centers with 48 production and injection wells.
