60-year-old Auckland businessman Mosese Vakapuna jailed 28 months for smuggling 5,982 kg of tobacco, evading $10.3M in taxes.

60-year-old Auckland businessman Mosese Vakapuna was jailed for 28 months for smuggling 5,982 kg of loose tobacco from Tonga into New Zealand, evading over $10.3 million in import and excise taxes. Vakapuna, along with his business JM Store, were convicted on 23 charges related to defrauding the revenue of Customs. JM Store was also fined $2,300.
