12 nations, including India, account for 60% of global mismanaged plastic waste despite low per capita production, according to EA Earth Action's report.

India is among 12 nations responsible for 60% of the world's mismanaged plastic waste, despite having low per capita plastic waste production, according to a new report by Swiss non-profit EA Earth Action. Global plastic waste generation has risen by 7.11% since 2021, with an estimated 220 million tons generated this year, 70 million tons of which will pollute the environment. The report precedes the United Nations' Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee meeting in Ottawa, Canada, where leaders aim to develop a legally binding instrument to address plastic pollution.
