Minimum-security prisoner's van tires slashed, shots fired at Maori funeral in Waikato, NZ; investigation ongoing.
A minimum-security prisoner and corrections officers found themselves in a dangerous situation at a tangi (Maori funeral) in Waikato, NZ, after their van's tires were slashed and shots fired. The prisoner and officers, from Waikeria Prison, were attending a family member's funeral and were escorted by the Corrections officers. A shotgun shell was discovered near the Corrections van, and an investigation is underway to identify the shooter.
