A dead humpback whale, approximately 20-30 feet long, washed ashore on New Jersey's Long Beach Island on April 11, marking the first whale death in the state this year, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. The whale was found at 51st Street in Long Beach Township and is the first found dead along the Jersey Shore in 2024. Last year, there were nine humpback whale strandings in New Jersey.
