EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini was found guilty of assaulting a police officer and causing malicious property damage in Cape Town during the 2019 State of the Nation Address. Dlamini hit officer Johan Carstens, breaking his glasses, claiming he was protecting EFF leader Julius Malema from an assassination threat. The court did not accept this defense and postponed sentencing to May 31st.
