24-year-old student, Ellen Mercer, died from long-term complications of nitrous oxide use after inhaling two to three "big bottles" a day, an inquest heard. Mercer's death was linked to bilateral pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis, and "long-term complications of nitrous oxide use." Senior coroner Heidi Connor stated, "This case has highlighted how hugely dangerous it is to use nitrous oxide."
