The UK government has redirected £8.3bn from the HS2 rail project to fund local road maintenance and repairs, including pothole repairs and resurfacing projects. Local authorities will use the allocated funds for their respective regions, with initial lists of roads to be maintained published. The government plans to invest up to £19.8bn in transport across the North, £9.6bn in transport across the Midlands, and £6.5bn in other regions.
