PMLA Adjudicating Authority upholds ED's attachment of Rs 752 crore assets of Congress-linked National Herald newspaper and companies.
The Prevention of Money Laundering Adjudicating Authority (PMLA) has upheld the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) attachment of approximately Rs 752 crore worth of assets belonging to the Congress-promoted National Herald newspaper and companies associated with it. The PMLA Adjudicating Authority stated in its order that it believes the movable assets and equity shares attached by the ED are proceeds of crime and linked to the offense of money laundering. The ED had issued a provisional attachment order under the PMLA in November 2022 against Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL) and Young Indian (YI). The National Herald is published by AJL and owned by Young Indian Private Limited, with majority shares held by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
