2nd Christchurch dog found infected with rare parasite babesiosis due to tick-borne babesia gibsoni.
Christchurch's second dog has been found infected with babesiosis, a rare parasite, due to tick-borne babesia gibsoni. The second case was discovered in a dog that had a tussle with the first infected dog. The first dog was euthanized, and blood tests on close contacts showed related infections. Biosecurity New Zealand will continue to trace contacts to investigate how the parasite entered New Zealand.
