Instagram introduces "Nudity Protection" feature, automatically blurring nudity in DMs for users under 18, using on-device machine learning.
Instagram is introducing a new safety feature called "Nudity Protection," which will automatically blur nudity in direct messages. The feature, which will be enabled by default for users under 18, uses on-device machine learning to detect nudity in images sent through the platform. When a user receives a blurred image, they will be encouraged not to feel obligated to respond and have the option to block the sender and report the conversation. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is testing this feature as part of its campaign to fight sexual scams and other forms of image abuse, aiming to protect young users from sextortion and other types of online abuse.
