A farmer in Co Laois has been convicted of animal welfare offences after the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) found dogs living in unsuitable conditions on his property. John Dempsey, from Strahard, Mountmellick, appeared in court on animal cruelty charges, failing to comply with an animal health and welfare notice, and failing to dispose of a bovine carcass. He was ordered to pay a fine of €2,500 and costs of €3,233.16.
