Canada's PBO estimates 1.3 million additional homes needed by 2030 to close housing gap, with 181,000 more homes needed annually than current rates.
Canada's Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) estimates that the country must build an additional 1.3 million homes by 2030 to close the housing gap, with 181,000 more homes needed to be built annually compared to current rates. This is lower than the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp.'s (CMHC) estimate of 3.5 million homes needed to restore affordability to 2003-04 levels. The Liberal government has made several housing announcements, including plans for billions of dollars in low-cost loans for rental construction and infrastructure funding for provinces and municipalities.
