1902-built Yeni Cami in Thessaloniki, Greece, hosted Eid prayers for the first time in over a century.
The historic Yeni Cami, or New Mosque, in Thessaloniki, Greece, held Eid prayers for the first time in over a century, with around 100 people attending the event. The mosque, built in 1902 for the city's Dönmeh community (Jews who had converted to Islam), was used for mass prayers during Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of Ramadan. This marks the first time in over 100 years that the building has been opened for such prayers.
