The Supreme Court overturned a 2021 decision upholding a 2017 arbitral award, relieving the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) from a Rs 8,000 crore liability to Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd, a Reliance Infrastructure firm. The top court criticized its own judgment, which it claimed was perverse and patently illegal, and allowed the DMRC's curative petition challenging the arbitral award. The Supreme Court decided that the amounts deposited by DMRC should be refunded, and any payments made as part of coercive action should also be restored.
