Police report a rise in rape cases involving underage girls in the past three years, with most cases believed to begin with grooming through social media, including apps like WhatsApp. Bukit Aman's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division principal assistant director Siti Kamsiah Hassan said victims reported knowing perpetrators through social media before meetings that led to their rape, often by gangs.
