City of Memphis appeals rape kit backlog class-action lawsuit in Tennessee Court of Appeals. More than 14,000 untested rape kits dating back to the 1980s are at the center of the legal battle. A circuit court judge ruled in favor of the class-action suit last year, but the city is now appealing that decision. The lawsuit was filed in 2014 after the Memphis Police Department revealed the untested kits.
