11 Maui students, impacted by wildfires, travel to Japan to learn recovery techniques from Japan's recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011. Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds a program called "Kibou for Maui" through the U.S.-Japan Council, which aims to help youth from Lahaina lead a long-term recovery process involving physical, mental, and spiritual aspects.
