Indiana Court of Appeals upholds BMV's refusal to issue nonbinary 'X' designations on driver's licenses.
The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) in Indiana is not required to issue nonbinary 'X' designations on driver's licenses, contrary to a previous trial court ruling. The court determined that the state's definition of "gender" means "sex". The 13 nonbinary Hoosiers who filed the lawsuit may appeal the decision to the Indiana Supreme Court.
