Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has acquired Beeper, an app that enables iPhone messaging features on Android smartphones for approximately $125 million. Beeper aims to leverage the changing regulatory environment to develop a unified messaging system combining its functionality with Automattic's previous acquisition, Texts. The single app will support messaging services like WhatsApp, Signal, LinkedIn, and more, across iPhones, Android smartphones, and computers.
