2021 Anamosa prison attack victim's family sues Iowa, alleging over-capacity and under-staffing.

The family of Anamosa corrections officer Robert McFarland, killed in a 2021 prison attack, is suing the state of Iowa. The lawsuit claims the Anamosa prison was over-capacity and under-staffed for at least five months before the deadly attack, with allegations it had a maximum capacity of 911 inmates but was housing over 950 at the time. The suit also states the prison only had 172 staff members despite being funded for 201 staff positions.
