Verstraete, serving a 102-month sentence for attempted murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, escaped from Lansing Correctional Facility's minimum-security unit. Verstraete was apprehended on Monday morning by the Lansing Police Department without incident. The escape did not impact the security or operations of the medium-maximum secure compound at the facility.
