Christchurch mosque hero Abdul Aziz, who chased the terror attacker away in 2019, appears in court on an assault charge. Aziz, 50, denies the charge and has elected a judge-alone trial. In 2022, he was recognised for his bravery in saving lives at the Linwood Islamic Centre. During the attack, Aziz picked up a discarded rifle and shouted to divert the gunman's attention, ultimately forcing the attacker to flee.
