USDA finalizes WIC program updates, increasing funds for fruits/vegetables and permanently raising monthly cash vouchers.
The US Department of Agriculture has finalized updates to the WIC program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children), providing more funds for fruits and vegetables and making permanent the increase in monthly cash vouchers for produce. The new rules, which take effect within two years, also increase the variety of available foods and offer a wider choice of foods from different cultures. The program serves nearly 7 million low-income women and children.
