Senate Democrats have unveiled a $1.3bn bill to expand government powers in combating pandemic fraud. The Fraud Protection and Recovery Act introduced by Senators Gary Peters, Dick Durbin, and Ron Wyden aims to tackle identity fraud and systemic pandemic fraud. The bill comes after the Justice Department announced it has charged over 3,500 defendants and seized or forfeited over $1.4bn related to coronavirus relief funds fraud.
