Saskatchewan initiates early wildfire preparations due to drought and low precipitation.

Saskatchewan has started its wildfire preparations two weeks early in response to below-average precipitation and ongoing drought. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is hiring the same number of seasonal firefighters as last year, while emphasising prevention strategies such as avoiding driving on dry grass and extinguishing campfires properly. Last year's wildfire season was one of the busiest in decades, with over 494 fires and 2,703 evacuations.
