Researchers develop a 97% accurate blood-based liquid biopsy test for early-stage pancreatic cancer detection, improving survival rates.
Researchers from City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and other institutions have developed a blood-based liquid biopsy test that accurately detects 97% of stage I and II pancreatic cancers in hundreds of volunteers. Combined with CA19-9 testing, the test's accuracy improves to 97%. Early detection and surgical removal of pancreatic cancer at stage I or II are crucial for increasing patient survival rates, as pancreatic cancer is currently the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, accounting for 3% of all new cancer cases.
