4 Siemens Mireo Plus B battery-electric trains started service on 8 April in Germany's Baden-Württemberg, part of shifting to sustainable transport. These trains, part of a 2020 order for 27 units, have a range of 120km in battery mode and can switch to conventional EMUs under overhead lines for recharging. They are expected to cost 25% less than diesel trains and reduce diesel fuel consumption by 1.8 million liters annually.
