Inmate assaulted staff member at Nebraska State Penitentiary, causing serious injuries; investigation underway.

A staff member at Nebraska State Penitentiary suffered serious injuries, including a fractured nose and eye socket, after an inmate assaulted him on Saturday. The inmate punched the staff member, knocking him to the ground, before other staff members intervened. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services has launched an investigation and the findings will be sent to the county attorney for potential criminal charges.
