A Butler County man, Paul Joseph Frederick, was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, obstruction of administration of law, and resisting arrest after the discovery of two dead German Shepherds in garbage bags in a Connoquenessing Township parking lot. The dogs' microchips and collars led police to Frederick's residence, where 50 animals, including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and ducks, were rescued and taken to a shelter. A necropsy report revealed the dogs had been starved.
