Bulgarian customs seize boats, motors, and life jackets destined for the English Channel at Kapitan Andreevo border post.
Bulgarian customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border post, one of Europe's busiest, are monitoring dinghies bound for the English Channel, despite being more than 150 km away from the nearest sea. In late 2022, British authorities reached out to Bulgaria to help stem the flow of small boats used in perilous crossings. In less than a year, customs officers have seized 52 motors, 49 rubber boats, 755 hand pumps, and 110 life jackets mainly from Turkish trucks heading to Western Europe.
