2 Papuan separatist leaders, Abubakar Kogoya and Damianus Magay, were killed in a shootout with security forces near the Grasberg gold mine (part-owned by Freeport-McMoRan) in Indonesia's Papua region. The Free Papua Movement rebels view the mine as a symbol of Indonesian rule and have been fighting a low-level insurgency since the region was annexed in the 1960s.
