China's Xinhua Forest Farm in Inner Mongolia, under the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program launched in 1978, has planted over 2.8 million trees to combat desertification in the region. The program aims to complete by 2050 and has planted trees on 112 million hectares in the past decade, increasing China's forest coverage to 231 million hectares. President Xi Jinping has set a target to develop the Three-North program into an "unbreakable green Great Wall" within 10 years.
