A Roanoke man was stopped at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport for bringing a loaded 9mm handgun with nine bullets to the security checkpoint. TSA officers discovered the firearm in his carry-on bag after being alerted by the X-ray unit. The man was cited on a weapons charge, with a potential civil penalty of up to $15,000. Last year, five guns were seized at the airport's security checkpoints, with this being the first incident in 2024.
