New York Mets have designated right-handed pitcher Michael Tonkin for assignment, creating room on the roster for Julio Teheran. Tonkin, signed to a $1 million deal in December, appeared in three games for the Mets this season, allowing eight runs in four innings. The Mets needed a roster spot for Teheran, who was signed to bolster the rotation after injuries to Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill.
