Australian research finds neurotoxin resistance in large monitor lizards preying on venomous snakes.

An Australian scientist is studying how certain lizards have evolved to resist the deadly neurotoxins of Australia's most venomous snakes. Led by University of Queensland Professor Bryan Fry, the research focuses on interactions between death adders and other venomous serpents, and the varanid lizard species, which includes perenties, Komodo dragons and goannas. The study suggests that large monitor lizards that prey on venomous snakes have inherited neurotoxin resistance, possibly connected to their predatory lifestyle.
