18-year-old giraffe Chioke at Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls euthanized due to severe foot fracture.

18-year-old reticulated giraffe Chioke at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died on March 28 due to a severe fracture in his front left foot. The zoo's Animal Care and Veterinary leaders decided to humanely euthanize him, as the injury was too serious for treatment. Chioke had previous hoof and foot issues, including two fractures and arthritis, and had been born in Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida before coming to the zoo in 2007.
